Caring Ministry

At Bedok Lutheran Church, We

  • are committed to nurture members of the BLC family.
  • believe the biblical and effective way for pastoral care and spiritual growth is done in Care Groups.
  • are strengthened in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through frequent partaking of the Word and the Sacraments, thus enabling us to walk the “ICHTHUS” journey leading to spiritual maturity.
  • joyfully serve God by leading people into a vibrant faith relationship with Jesus Christ.

A Biblical Perspective on Caring

  • Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each others burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal 6:1-2)
  • Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:24-25)
  • A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)

The Practice of Caring

The Purpose of Care Groups is to provide pastoral care for members leading to a vibrant relationship with Christ.

The Ministry of Caring aims to:

1.

Strengthen the fellowship of love among members by caring for one another in Care Groups in practical and appropriate ways. For example, offering practical help appropriate to members’ needs.

Those who need further help may seek the assistance of the Diaconate Office and Pastors, e.g. counseling, application to the Needy Fund, home blessing & Cleansing.

2.

Provide care for the spiritual life of members by encouraging one another to receive the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through regular partaking of the Word and the Sacraments in the Sunday Worship Service.

The following serves as a guide for the Caring Ministry:

  • Care Group Leaders, with the help of their group members, will assist the Church to follow-up on members who miss the Sunday Worship Services
  • Care Groups will contact such members to find out how they are. For example, they can give them a telephone call, send a card, an email or pay them a visit.
  • Each Care Group will provide pastoral care by praying for and extending loving care to such members in various ways to enable them to come to Sunday Worship Services.
  • Care Groups may seek the help of the Diaconate Office for members who have not been receiving the ministry of the Word and Sacrament regularly.

God’s Word exhorts us: “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you” (Hebrews 12:17).

Therefore, members are encouraged to respond positively when they are recipients of the Care Ministry from their Care Groups and their leaders.
